Postpartum Recovery

Postpartum = The 4th Trimester. A time when so much is required from mothers - time, energy, body.

Often, after the birth the doctor appointments and check-ins for mothers become infrequent. But the postpartum body is brand new and can feel unfamiliar and uneasy. I aim to bridge the gap between doctor visits and getting back to activity and adventure.

These are areas that I address when working with my postpartum mothers:

  • Diastasis recti abdominis (DRA) assessment and treatment
  • Diaphragmatic breathing to reconnect to the your core
  • Alleviate muscle tension in neck/shoulders/chest from feeding
  • Pelvic organ prolapse (POP): the sensation of heaviness in the vaginal canal, especially when lifting or walking around for prolonged periods. This may also result in urinary leaking and sensation of incomplete voiding or bowel movements
  • Strength training of upper and lower body regions for return to activity
  • Return to running exercise protocol
